This Fall, instead of having a full semester of Discovery Academy, we have split it into four-week sessions with smaller classes. Each session will follow a theme; the first session is “Birds, Bees, & Butterflies”. Instead of the traditional STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), this one is STEAM which adds in the Arts. Session 1 students will learn painting, drawing, and sculpting while studying the natural world. One of the art projects will be combined to create a piece that will be displayed in the library.
Discovery is going full STEAM ahead!
That means our 1st four-week session, starting September 15th, will include learning to draw, paint, and sculpt while studying science and technology. Local artist Lyrae Perry will be the instructor, and the class will help create an educational art piece as part of the library’s Sustainable Gardens project. The piece will be made up of 3 dimensional Texas pollinators and will be permanently displayed in the library. We’ll also learn why birds are such remarkable creatures that have been around since the dinosaurs.
In response to COVID-19, Discovery Academy will meet once a week on Tuesdays starting September 15. In order to social distance, each session is limited to ten 3rd-6th grade students. Classes will be held on our newly renovated patio unless there is inclement weather. Each session will be four weeks so more students can participate. After registration reaches 10, additional students will be enrolled in the next available session. Students will ride the school bus to the library. Parents will pick up their students at 5:00 pm on the side that goes to the baseball field. A healthy snack will be provided. There is no charge for Discovery.
If your student arrives to Discovery sick, you will be called to pick them up. Face coverings will be required. We are sorry to make these changes, but must for everyone’s health. Thank you again for the opportunity and honor to work with your wonderful students.
